Beyond the ADP | Fantasy Football Without the Noise
October 19, 2026 — Updated following Week 6
Week 6 may be over for most NFL teams, but the fantasy fallout is only beginning.
Monday brought several injured-reserve transactions, a devastating update on Jalen Hurts, and confirmation that Davante Adams faces a lengthy absence.
For fantasy managers, these aren’t simply names to move into IR slots. They’re developments that could reshape backfields, receiving hierarchies, waiver-wire priorities and rest-of-season rankings.
Here are the confirmed IR moves, the major injuries expected to lead to additional roster changes, and the players whose fantasy value could rise.
1. Jalen Hurts — Philadelphia Eagles
QB | Injured Reserve — Expected to miss remainder of 2026
Season-ending outlook
Philadelphia’s injury situation took a dramatic turn Monday.
Hurts was placed on injured reserve Saturday after doctors identified a blood clot in his calf. Further testing revealed deep-vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli affecting both lungs.
The Eagles announced that Hurts is stable, his prognosis is favorable, and he is expected to recover fully. However, treatment involving blood thinners prevents him from participating in contact football. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Fantasy fallout
- Tanner McKee: Becomes Philadelphia’s long-term starting quarterback, with superflex relevance but considerable uncertainty.
- DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert: Could retain meaningful targets, but their passing efficiency and touchdown ceilings face additional risk.
- Saquon Barkley: When healthy, could benefit from fewer quarterback-designed runs near the goal line, although the offense may generate fewer scoring opportunities overall.
Our fantasy call: Hurts is no longer a viable 2026 redraft asset. Dynasty managers should retain him and prioritize his recovery. Downgrade the Eagles’ passing-game projections until McKee demonstrates consistent production.
2. Romeo Doubs — New England Patriots
WR | Shoulder — Placed on IR October 19
Doubs’ promising afternoon against the Jets ended with a shoulder injury after a 42-yard touchdown reception.
New England officially placed him on injured reserve Monday, guaranteeing at least four games missed. The Patriots’ announcement confirms the transaction, although it does not establish a precise recovery date.
New England Patriots
Fantasy fallout
- A.J. Brown: Could command a larger share of the Patriots’ receiving opportunities.
- DeMario Douglas: Becomes a more appealing PPR depth option if his route participation increases.
- Hunter Henry: Could benefit from additional intermediate and red-zone targets.
Our fantasy call: Move Doubs to an IR slot. Douglas is worth evaluating as a waiver claim, while Brown’s target-share outlook improves.
3. Jacory Croskey-Merritt — Washington Commanders
RB | Groin — Placed on IR October 19
Washington officially moved Croskey-Merritt to injured reserve Monday after his groin injury disrupted his availability.
The Commanders also activated Jeremy McNichols from injured reserve, adding another option to a backfield already featuring Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler.
Washington Commanders
Fantasy fallout
- Rachaad White: Potentially the strongest candidate for early-down and goal-line opportunities.
- Austin Ekeler: Receiving ability makes him particularly interesting in full-PPR formats.
- Jeremy McNichols: Returns as depth, but his workload remains uncertain.
Our fantasy call: White and Ekeler deserve immediate attention. Neither should automatically be projected for a workhorse role until Washington’s new touch distribution becomes clear.
4. Tanner Hudson — Cincinnati Bengals
TE | Pectoral — Placed on IR October 19
Cincinnati placed Hudson on injured reserve Monday because of a pectoral injury. The transaction means he must miss at least four games.

Fantasy fallout
Hudson’s absence creates additional opportunities for Cincinnati’s remaining tight ends, but it does not automatically produce a fantasy starter.
The important questions will be who inherits his routes, which tight ends participate in passing situations, and whether the Bengals distribute those targets to wide receivers instead.
Our fantasy call: Hudson is droppable in most shallow redraft formats. In TE-premium and deeper leagues, monitor Cincinnati’s first practice reports and offensive usage before committing waiver resources to a replacement.
5. Davante Adams — Los Angeles Rams
WR | Ruptured hamstring — Out 6–10 weeks
IR placement not yet confirmed
One of Monday’s biggest fantasy developments came from Los Angeles.
Head coach Sean McVay confirmed that Adams ruptured his semitendinosus, a hamstring muscle, during Sunday’s loss to Arizona.
The projected recovery period is six to ten weeks, potentially keeping Adams sidelined through much of the remaining fantasy season.
Adams had recorded 30 receptions, 480 yards and four touchdowns through six games. Importantly, his injury and lengthy absence are confirmed, but an official IR transaction had not appeared in Monday’s verified transaction roundup.
Los Angeles Rams

Fantasy fallout
- Puka Nacua: Already an elite receiver, he could see an even larger share of the Rams’ passing offense.
- Jordan Whittington: An intriguing speculative addition with an opportunity to earn more routes.
- Tutu Atwell: Could gain additional receiving snaps and explosive-play opportunities.
- Konata Mumpfield and C.J. Daniels: Deep-league names to monitor as Los Angeles adjusts its receiver rotation.
McVay also indicated that the Rams could explore adding another receiver, making this a developing situation.
Our fantasy call: Nacua is the clear beneficiary. Whittington is worth an early speculative waiver claim, but managers should avoid assuming Adams’ targets will flow to one replacement.
Adams is a hold in dynasty leagues. In redraft, his value depends on roster depth, IR eligibility and whether a late-season return remains realistic.
6. Blake Grupe — Los Angeles Rams
K | Torn ACL — Placed on IR October 19
The Rams confirmed that Grupe suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game against Arizona and will miss the remainder of the season.
Los Angeles placed him on injured reserve Monday and is evaluating replacement kickers.
Los Angeles Rams
Fantasy fallout
Managers rostering Grupe need a replacement immediately. The Rams’ offense can provide fantasy kicking opportunities, but there is no reason to speculate on a particular replacement before the team makes its selection.
Our fantasy call: Drop Grupe in standard redraft leagues and stream a healthy kicker with a favorable Week 7 matchup.
7. Jordan Mason — Minnesota Vikings
RB | Thumb — Designated to return from IR
Not every important IR transaction is bad news.
Minnesota designated Mason to return from injured reserve Monday, opening the door for his eventual return to the active roster.
This is not an official activation. A return designation allows a player to resume practice while remaining on injured reserve.
Preme Sports
Fantasy fallout
Mason’s potential return could alter Minnesota’s backfield rotation, particularly if he regains early-down or short-yardage responsibilities.
His practice participation and the Vikings’ plans for his first game back will determine how aggressively fantasy managers should value him.
Our fantasy call: Mason is worth monitoring in deeper leagues, but don’t assume he’s playing Week 7 until Minnesota activates him.
THE WEEK 7 FANTASY WINNERS
| Player | Why their value could rise |
| Puka Nacua | Potential target concentration without Adams |
| A.J. Brown | Expanded opportunity without Doubs |
| DeMario Douglas | Potential increase in routes and PPR targets |
| Rachaad White | More available backfield touches in Washington |
| Austin Ekeler | Receiving and change-of-pace opportunities |
| Jordan Whittington | Potentially expanded Rams receiver role |
| Saquon Barkley | Possible additional goal-line carries once healthy, offset by offensive uncertainty |
OTHER IMPORTANT IR DEVELOPMENTS
Washington also placed linebacker Javontae Jean-Baptiste on injured reserve, which matters primarily for IDP leagues and defensive depth. The Rams reported that defensive lineman Poona Ford will miss the season with a triceps injury, while Kobie Turner is likely headed to IR because of a groin injury. Turner’s placement was not yet confirmed.

Meanwhile, Christian Kirk remains on San Francisco’s injured reserve list after not being activated for Monday night’s game. His calf recovery and eventual activation are worth monitoring, but he is not a new IR placement.
OUR WEEK 7 IR STRATEGY
The smartest fantasy managers won’t simply chase every replacement player.
They’ll evaluate which injuries create dependable opportunities.
Prioritize volume. A receiver gaining six to eight targets every week is generally more valuable than one who needs a long touchdown to produce.
Separate temporary opportunities from lasting ones. Washington’s backfield could remain unsettled for several weeks, while the Rams must replace Adams for a much longer stretch.
Protect your IR spots. Hurts, Doubs and Croskey-Merritt have confirmed placements. Adams’ lengthy absence is confirmed, but fantasy-platform IR eligibility may depend on the team’s official designation.
Monitor returning players. Mason’s practice window and McNichols’ activation could change backfield projections, even though neither guarantees a major fantasy workload.
THE FINAL CALL
The biggest story is Jalen Hurts. Philadelphia losing its starting quarterback for the remainder of the season has consequences across the entire offense.
But from a fantasy waiver-wire perspective, the most actionable developments may be elsewhere.
Romeo Doubs’ absence creates opportunities in New England. Croskey-Merritt’s IR placement changes Washington’s backfield. And Davante Adams’ lengthy recovery could reshape the Rams’ passing game for the rest of the fantasy regular season.
The injury report tells us who’s missing. The opportunity report tells us who could win your league.
That’s where our attention belongs heading into Week 7.
