Five players with favorable opportunities, exploitable defensive matchups, and the potential to outperform expectations.
By Beyond the ADP | November 5, 2026
The fantasy football playoffs are approaching, and every lineup decision matters. With injuries reshaping offenses and teams beginning to establish their identities, finding the right matchup advantage could be the difference between a crucial victory and a frustrating loss.
At Beyond the ADP, we’re looking beyond name recognition. We’re examining recent production, target volume, defensive weaknesses, and game situations to identify players who could outperform their usual fantasy expectations.
Here are five Week 9 matchups worth targeting.
1. Kyle Pitts β TE, Atlanta Falcons
Opponent: Cincinnati Bengals | Sunday, 9:30 AM ET
Player Strengths
Pitts has experienced an inconsistent season, but his upside remains evident. Before a disappointing Week 8 performance, he delivered at least 13.2 PPR fantasy points in three consecutive games.
His size and receiving ability make him a potential mismatch when Atlanta gets him involved, particularly against defenses that struggle to contain tight ends.
Defensive Weaknesses
Cincinnati has been one of the more generous defenses against the position.
- 7 receptions allowed per game to tight ends β second-most in the NFL.
- 88.7 receiving yards allowed per game to tight ends β second-most.
- 16.5 PPR fantasy points allowed per game to the position.
The Bengals have struggled to limit receiving production over the middle of the field, creating an appealing opportunity for Pitts.
Beyond the ADP Verdict: TE1 upside
Pitts is our favorite tight-end matchup play of the week. A high-scoring game environment could give him enough targets to produce one of his better performances.
2. Chase Brown β RB, Cincinnati Bengals
Opponent: Atlanta Falcons | Sunday, 9:30 AM ET
Player Strengths
Brown’s value extends beyond traditional rushing production. His involvement in the passing game makes him particularly valuable in PPR formats.
In Week 8 against Tennessee, Brown recorded:
- 12 carries for 55 rushing yards.
- 8 receptions on 9 targets.
- 46 receiving yards.
- 20 total touches.
That receiving involvement gives Brown multiple paths to fantasy production, even when the rushing touchdowns aren’t there.
Defensive Weaknesses
Atlanta has struggled against opposing running backs.
- 28.1 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing backfields.
- Third-most fantasy points surrendered to the position.
- 324 rushing yards allowed in its most recent game.
The Falcons’ difficulty containing running backs creates an opportunity for Brown to contribute both on the ground and through the air.
Beyond the ADP Verdict: Strong RB2 with RB1 upside
Brown is one of our favorite running back plays this week. His receiving workload provides a useful floor, while Atlanta’s defensive struggles raise his ceiling.
3. DeMario Douglas β WR, New England Patriots
Opponent: Green Bay Packers | Sunday, 4:25 PM ET
Player Strengths
Douglas has emerged as a productive weapon in New England’s passing attack.
Entering Week 9, he has recorded:
- 26 receptions.
- 332 receiving yards.
- 4 receiving touchdowns.
- 10.2 PPR fantasy points per game.
Even more encouraging, Douglas has scored at least 16.6 PPR points in three of his previous four games.
With A.J. Brown dealing with ankle and knee injuries, Douglas could continue seeing an expanded role.
Defensive Weaknesses
Green Bay presents an intriguing matchup.
- The Packers rank among the nine most favorable matchups for opposing wide receivers by fantasy points allowed.
- Seven receivers have scored at least 11.6 PPR points against Green Bay over its previous three games.
That recent trend creates an opportunity for Douglas to continue his productive stretch.
Beyond the ADP Verdict: WR3/Flex with upside
Douglas offers an appealing combination of recent production and potential opportunity. If New England’s receiving corps remains shorthanded, he could be one of the more valuable flex plays of Week 9.
4. Ryan Flournoy β WR, Dallas Cowboys
Opponent: Indianapolis Colts | Sunday, 1:00 PM ET
Player Strengths
Flournoy has quietly become a useful contributor in the Dallas passing game.
His season production includes:
- 30 receptions.
- 342 receiving yards.
- 2 receiving touchdowns.
- 9.6 PPR fantasy points per game.
Most importantly, he has scored at least 11 PPR points in four consecutive games.
With George Pickens managing shoulder and hamstring injuries and Jake Ferguson dealing with an ankle injury, Flournoy could benefit from additional opportunities.
Defensive Weaknesses β and the Important Catch
Indianapolis is not an especially favorable matchup for wide receivers overall. In fact, the Colts rank among the tougher defenses against the position by fantasy points allowed.
That makes Flournoy different from our other selections.
His appeal comes primarily from his recent production and the possibility of increased targets, rather than an obvious weakness in Indianapolis’ defense.
Beyond the ADP Verdict: Deep-league sleeper
Flournoy is a calculated gamble for managers in deeper leagues or those dealing with injuries. His recent consistency is encouraging, but we would not automatically start him over a more established receiver.
5. Josh Downs β WR, Indianapolis Colts
Opponent: Dallas Cowboys | Sunday, 1:00 PM ET
Player Strengths
Downs brings a receiving profile that can translate well to PPR fantasy football.
His ability to work underneath coverage and generate receptions gives him a useful foundation when Indianapolis needs to throw.
Downs has drawn at least four targets in every game this season, demonstrating a consistent role in the passing attack.
Defensive Weaknesses
Dallas has struggled to contain opposing wide receivers.
- 164.1 receiving yards allowed per game to wide receivers.
- Approximately one receiving touchdown allowed per game to the position.
- A favorable matchup for receivers capable of producing through volume.
If Dallas forces Indianapolis into a pass-heavy game, Downs could benefit from additional targets.
Beyond the ADP Verdict: PPR Flex upside
Downs is particularly interesting in full-PPR formats. Managers looking for steady reception opportunities should consider him, especially in leagues starting three wide receivers.
Our Week 9 Matchup Rankings
| Rank | Player | Matchup | Fantasy Outlook |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kyle Pitts | vs. CIN | TE1 upside |
| 2 | Chase Brown | vs. ATL | RB1 upside |

Final Thoughts: Exploit the Matchup, Not Just the Name
Winning fantasy managers understand that weekly matchups can be just as important as season-long rankings.
Kyle Pitts and Chase Brown offer the clearest statistical matchup advantages this week. DeMario Douglas and Josh Downs present interesting opportunities in PPR formats, while Ryan Flournoy offers a more speculative option for managers searching for depth.
Remember, a favorable matchup doesn’t guarantee fantasy success. Target volume, injuries, offensive game plans, and game script still matter.
Our favorite matchup: Kyle Pitts vs. Cincinnati.
Our favorite RB play: Chase Brown vs. Atlanta.
Our favorite upside flex: DeMario Douglas vs. Green Bay.
Our deeper-league sleeper: Ryan Flournoy vs. Indianapolis.
